Culinary Arts 1

This course prepares students for a career in the food service industry. Students train in the basics of planning, purchasing and preparing food in quantity. They learn cooking techniques and preparation, selection and use of utensils and equipment, and safety and sanitation techniques needed in food preparation.

Culinary Arts 2

Students study kitchen design and layout, food costs, inventory management and cost controls in Culinary Arts 2. They learn how to plan for and serve at banquets. The culinary program is certified through the American Culinary Federation.

Design & Visual Communications 1

Students learn the history, principles and practices of graphic design using typographic components. This course introduces students to the basic elements of graphic visual communication through lectures, demonstrations and hands-on work. Students explore visual perception through a variety of exercises including but not limited to: composition, graphic design principles, digital photography and typography.

Design & Visual Communications 2

Students continue to develop skills in basic design, color theory and practical lab application. Essential skills that they will learn are project management, collaboration, peer review, design and redesign, research and communications. Students investigate design problems and logo designs, and go on to design symbols. The project activities that students complete focus on developing translation from concept to digital illustrative form.

Video Production & Broadcasting 1

This course introduces students to all aspects of the media industry, and teaches them how to use industry-standard equipment and technology through hands-on projects. Students learn how to plan and execute projects on their own and in groups, preparing them for the next step in their career in the media industry.

Video Production & Broadcasting 2

Video Production & Broadcasting 2 builds on students’ knowledge by writing, producing and creating video programs. Students also learn more about cable, satellite and web-based distribution channels. They build portfolios and reels to help further their education and future career.

Graphic Design 1

In Graphic Design 1, students gain knowledge about industry specific software, creative thinking, drawing techniques, copywriting, design and layout, art history, and printing. They also learn about career options and preparation for higher education.

Graphic Design 2

In Graphic Design 2, students continue to explore the graphic design field. They focus on skills using a variety of design softwares, and learn about communications, critical thinking, problem solving to create products. Students will work individually and in groups to produce projects.
